Wish will offer European shoppers the opportunity to exchange used tech devices for money. To do this, Wish owner ContectLogic has entered into a partnership with refurbished goods provider Remarketed. The program will start in the Netherlands next month, followed by other European countries.
The ‘Wish Trade-In’ program allows consumers to exchange their used smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and other old tech devices for cash, “with no strings attached”; consumers do not have to spend the money at Wish’s online marketplace.
Instant valuation
Remarketed, based in the Dutch city of Groningen, will provide an instant estimated valuation based on the submitted device’s age and condition. Customers can ship their used products for free (thanks to prepaid shipping labels) and receive payment after verification. Wish will refurbish selected items and resell them on its platform.

Alan Small, Director of Business Development at Wish, highlights the various benefits of the buyback program: “As well as putting cash back into the hands of our customers, it significantly reduces e-waste by extending a product’s life”, he explains.

The initiative is also in line with Wish’s expansion of its refurbished goods, according to Small: “The launch of our trade-in service complements our recently expanded range of refurbished electronics which allows customers to benefit from new technologies at a fraction of the price.”
Recommerce is booming
The recommerce market is booming, which is why many other platforms are also investing in it. Demand from European customers has already propelled second-hand shopping on Amazon into a billion euros business.
Wish relisted
Wish, founded in 2010, is headquartered in San Francisco. Most of the listed products on the online marketplace come from Chinese manufacturers and merchants. Wish was boycotted in France from the end of 2021 but was relisted about a year ago.
