Vinted acquires Trendsales

Second-hand fashion platform Vinted has acquired Danish competitor Trendsales. By doing so, the platform wants to fortify its position in the Nordic region. The acquisition is in contrast with the termination of its luxury platform Rebelle, which was announced in January.

The recommerce market in Europe is growing, as it now has a share of 12.3 percent compared to the overall ecommerce market. In 2022, Lithuanian second-hand fashion c2c marketplace Vinted acquired Rebelle. This was a competitor from Germany, which sold fashion from luxury brands.

In January, the company announced that it was terminating its luxury platform. Members are invited to join Vinted instead. By doing so, the Lithuanian company was able to expand its own luxury offer.

Presence in Denmark

In September last year, Vinted launched in Denmark. And now, it wants to solidify its presence there. Trendsales is Denmark’s largest second-hand marketplace. Through the takeover, Vinted can profit from its regional knowledge. It is unclear which amount was involved with the acquisition.

‘The Danish appetite for second-hand clothing continues to grow.’

“The Danish appetite for second-hand clothing continues to grow, and Trendsales has played a significant role in that development. With impressive growth and a compelling vision, Trendsales is a company that has established a strong second-hand community in Denmark that we are excited to become part of”, said Adam Jay, CEO of Vinted Marketplace.

‘Opportunities on a larger scale’

“Vinted’s commitment to make second-hand the first choice in Europe offers us exciting opportunities on a much larger scale. After a successful journey with Trendsales over the past years, I am excited to join forces with the Vinted team and collectively tackle the opportunities ahead,” said Mads Aaroe Mathiesen, CEO of Trendsales.
