Spotlight on veteran India pacer, set to play for Delhi

Ishant Sharma had played only Delhi’s first game against Puducherry, in Ranji Trophy 2024, having bagged only one wicket.

India pacer Ishant Sharma, who has been out of the team for a while now, will walk into the playing XI of the Delhi Ranji Trophy team, as they prepare to take on Baroda in the fifth-round match on Friday. The veteran bowler, who has over 300 Test wickets to his name, had made himself available for Delhi home matches earlier.

Team Delhi is struggling at the moment in the competition with only one win from four matches, with two losses coming their way. To add to their woes, they had controversies brewing in the camp, when Yash Dhull was removed as the captain after the first match, and then Ayush Badoni was asked to stay at the hotel in the last encounter. Ishant’s presence could certainly lift the team.

Meanwhile, Ishant had last played for India in 2021; a Test against New Zealand at Green Park. He has 311 wickets in the format, from 105 Tests.

Change in Venue for Delhi vs Baroda

The clash was initially supposed to take place at the Feroz Shah Kotla but the ground is now being prepared for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Meanwhile, the writing is clear on the wall for Delhi, they need to register three outright wins to make it to the quarters in the Ranji Trophy 2024.

But the team had shown a fight in the match against Uttarakhand, where skipper Himmat Singh came up with a crucial 194, after being reduced to 14-5 in the second innings.
