My New Favorite Exfoliator Is One Oprah Called a “Superstar”

There’s nothing I love more than a spa facial. The overall ambiance, cozy robes, dim, warm lighting—it’s the perfect escape to the stresses of everyday life. But the best part is how healthy and glowy my skin looks after an hour of top-grade products and treatments. Alas, reality doesn’t allow me the luxury of spa facials as often as I’d like, so I’m always on the lookout for at-home products that come close. This week I found one that’s earned a permanent spot on my shelves: Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant ($18-$65).

Oprah once dubbed the rice-based enzyme powder a “superstar.” If that wasn’t enough to convince me to try it (it was), Dermalogica ambassador Courteney Cox said the “way it exfoliates and brightens [her] skin makes [her] look like [she] just got a professional skin treatment.” Sold and sold.

I finally tried Daily Microfoliant. Here’s my honest review.

The product begins as a dry powder that when mixed with water becomes a creamy paste. When combined the formula activates: salicylic acid and rice cleanse and polish, white tea and licorice nourish and smooth texture and colloidal oatmeal and allantoin calm and soothe. I enjoyed feeling like my very own skin chemist, and especially loved that the paste felt comfortable on my dry, sometimes sensitive skin, even after rinsing. (Microfoliant is gentle enough to be used daily, per the brand. So far, I can attest to having experienced no adverse reactions.) After a minute or so of massage and a thorough rinse, I am all in on the hype. Before serums and moisturizer, my skin really does look brighter and smoother, and feels softer too.

Dermalogica’s Microfoliant knows how to get you a facial-worthy glow at home. (Oprah was right!) Shop Microfoliant and other celeb-loved (Tina Fey is a fan too!) Dermalogica products, here.
